Movie thoughts.
Isn't it weird that when we first see a picture of a person, we judge what they look like in a split of a second? Isn't it horrible that society has brainwashed all of us to judge others by their physical features, and degrade them for what they’re worth just because they’re not what the media depicts as “beautiful”? We keep saying it’s getting better than before, but it’s not. I’m tired of not feeling good enough because I’m not as skinny as I’d like to be, my face is too round, my hair isn't great, etc. But why do we even care about these things? It’s because all of us want to be perfect, and to reach that impossible standard of beautiful, and when we don’t reach it, we feel disappointed. Our self-esteem drops from when we were little 5 year olds who believed we could do anything and be anything, to teenagers that are tormented by self-hate. You could read this right now, and say “Oh that’s awful, I’m going to do something about it” but then forget about it the next day. We’ll go back to judging each other, yet feeling bad about ourselves because this is the way that we grew up. This is what we’re used to. And don’t get me wrong, I’m the same. I just wish that we could make a difference. I wish that the media didn't turn into what it is now, where girls are supposed to have a small waist to hip ratio with large breasts because that it what is considered attractive. I can’t stand that. Then men are expected to be strong, and they do not cry because that isn't considered masculine. We’re human. We all have emotions. All of these ideas are so irrational. No wonder we’re all torn up and broken little things.

11/19/12
Being in Get Fit has helped me gain the positive attitude towards regular physical activity. I'm proud that I have learned a variety of ways to improve my fitness level. Throughout this semester, I haven't lost the motivation to try to do all the things I normally wouldn't do. I'd often feel embarrassed to try new things, because I would not be good at them; however, this class gives me a chance to take the opportunity to try these things, such as yoga, circuits, zumba, etc., with the encouraging support from all the girls and Ms.Phillips. Compared from the beginning of the semester till now, I can definitely feel a difference. Not only do I feel like I've improved my fitness level in terms of endurance, flexibility, and strength, I feel better about myself. Doing fitness has improved my mood overall. I'm proud to be where I am now and I have no regrets.
As said before, I learned a variety of ways to improve my fitness level. On regular fitness days for everyone, we do those runs that help my endurance level. I run for a longer amount of time than I ever had before. I learned that you could even stay fit without leaving your home, and you could do mini-workouts in your room full of sit-ups, jumping jacks, crutches, push-ups, planks, etc. depending on what body part you wanted to work on. I love doing those kinds of things if I can't leave the house. Even doing household chores such as vacuuming that require a lot of movement and even going up and down the stairs are at least something that benefits me. I learned that we can always find something to do to stay fit.
To be honest, I don't want this semester to end. I wish that Get Fit ran all semester. This class is really a joy to be in; however, since it is ending, I need to make goals by the end of the course. I hope that I keep up this motivated positive attitude. I hope that I can run for an even longer amount of time than I can now, or get a better score on the Beep Test. My ultimate goal is that even after this class ends, that I will take the things that I have learned from this class and use them in my every day life to continue to work on my fitness and become a healthier person overall.
